That’s not really the issue though. The thing is the show is very obviously trying to tell us that Mako has “special” feelings for Korra and that his disproportionate worry for her reflects their very special otp status on the show. What he would or wouldn’t do if it’d been Bolin or Asami, who knows but all we see is the show shoving his “special” worry for Korra down out throats.as annoyed as I am with Mako right now, is anyone talking about how he probably would have reacted similarly if Asami or Bolin were captured at this point in the story, especially since now he KNOWS they could take Bolins bending away

Yeah I’m not. Trying to absolve Mako of his mistakes and I’m not saying I’m okay with how the show presented it. I am not. It was obnoxious and annoying and a little bit painful to watch, on a personal level, in part because I don’t care for Makorra and in part because I was so damn annoyed with Mako. All I was trying to convey was that as far as Makos character goes, there are so many other things he’s done wrong that I don’t much see the point in giving him shit for something that was both reasonable and IC? That is an acknolwedgent separate from my own distaste for makorras heavy-handed treatment and my issues with how Mako is handling this wrt Asami.
