A preview page from Avatar: The Search. Apparently there is a rumour going around that Ozai might not be Zuko’s father. Now, to my knowledge that has yet to be proven true so it’s still just speculation.
Man on the first picture is Ikem, Ursa’s young love, they were separated when Ozai hand picked Ursa to betrothed. Which is what is happened in the second picture.
are they really gonna pull this shit with me please say they aren’t
no
NONONONONONONONONONONONONONO. NO. Please no.
The thing that frustrates me most about this idea is that it’s favoring an extremely tired cliche (and introducing the element of a previously unmentioned, distracting third party, unless he really IS the original Wang Fire) over what could be a much more intriguing and revealing story about the relationship between Ursa and Ozai. It shifts the emotional weight of everything to a place we really don’t need it.
And he chose her, apparently: not his court, or his father, or anybody else. Why? How did they meet? Was there ever a point where she felt affection for him, or (an even more pressing question) he for her?
Can we accept the idea of a woman going into this with nothing but her own strength, who grows in that strength despite the frightening changes in a man she thought she knew, who may have believed that said changed man would kill her for the treason she committed to save their son and may also have been ultimately surprised when he didn’t end up doing so?
Turning Ursa into this pining, martyred woman doomed to an arranged marriage and forever longing for the arms of another man is just…no thank you, I guess? I’ve seen it too often. Wouldn’t we learn more about both characters by throwing them into this situation and just watching them commit - even for purely political purposes - to working themselves out of it together?
emphasis mine. well put.
