I love how tightly he seems to be gripping the staff. The expression on his face mirrors that tension. Its one of the last things he owns from his life 100 years ago, hand crafted specifically for his use, a piece of wood that reveals succinct memories— maybe learning to fly with his teachers and peers, or getting into trouble with his friends across the globe, even the simple freedom of watching a peaceful sky from above the clouds— and represents the thousands of others in all four temples that lost their flight in the genocide. By running he has incurred so much damage, but he recognizes that even the loss of this is meant to be. So he lets it go to ash.

Headcanon - At times Sokka would go to the place Momo was burried and leave a few fruits, especially peaches, the same thing Momo had brough him the day they met. Just because that was the beggining of their friendship and earned him his name (since Momo means peach).

I loved how Sokka and momo became close throughout the series. It’s adorable.
