YYYYYYYYYYYOOOOO SNOWY IMMA USE YOUR SUBMIT BOX AS A PLACE TO TALK ABOUT INTRO/EXTROVERSION BECAUSE IT’S SOMETHING EXTREMELY INTERESTING TO ME AND I HAVE THAT ONE BOOK ON IT THAT PPL SHOULD READ CALLED “QUIET”
AAANYWAY HEADS UP
alright bro, so lemme say first (and this is not an attack on extroversion!! This is mostly America’s fault) that there is in fact an extrovert ideal in place in most of westernized countries - people should be proactive, loud, etc, markers we commonly place on extroverted people
however, the textbook def of extrovert is someone who gets energy from being around people and vice versa for introvert. it doesn’t say jack shit about ~loudness~ or ~anxiety levels - while introverted people are more prone to be anxious, extroverted people are more prone to cover it up!!!
so
this leads to this entire double-edged sword that introverts are nervous and total wrecks and their life SUX and they HATE PPL and they NEVER EVER TALK TO PPL EVER!!!! and that extroverts are wild party magic sprinklefairies
which ofc leads to the entire idea that extroverts are almost always neurotypical, happy, independent people that never need anyone else when really it’s basically just the world putting on it’s Fuck You hat and not paying attention to anyone who can pretend they can cope
and this, as most things told to you by the media, is bullshit
just like every single fuckin personality trait on the planet, intro/extroversion is a spectrum, not an extreme
and honestly I feel like people put too much weight in the vocabulary associated with their personality traits because psychologically, this is largely unchartered territory
people don’t just have a set amount of interaction they can deal with, everyone needs to have a decent flow of being alone and positive human interaction
anyway I am very sorry for this large wall of text but I have Opinions on this and yep
you can publish this or not idk just!!! things I wanted to say!!
YUP, i’ve been meaning to make a formal post for a while talking abt this but you worded it p well :D i’ve seen people say that since they’re extroverted they didn’t realize they could have anxiety disorders and the like because they thought the two were contradictory, but like you said, introversion and extroversion are just about how you get energy. its a dangerous misconception imo and the introversion/extroversion binary is oft presented much more rigidly than how it actually manifests in ppl.
