One of my ex best friends called me a faggot in a fight and I never got over it. She is out of my life now, but my other best friend wants to talk to her again and I hate her so much for it but I cant tell her because it would ruin our relationship and its the only relationship I have with anyone.

I AM PISSED OFF

Trigger Warning: transmisogynistic slur

ifwemetupatmidnight:

I am pissed off because Laci Green, one of the most promising young content creators on YouTube, has been forced off the Internet by death threats—apparently driven by her casual use of the word “tranny” in a video she made more than three years ago. (She apologized and even took down the video.)

Laci makes wonderful, hilarious, sex-positive videos that have been tremendously helpful to millions of people (including me). She makes people feel less alone and less ashamed. She’s wonderful, and YouTube and tumblr are very lucky to have her, and we should all be really pissed that her ability to make stuff has been compromised by threats.

Here’s the truth, although we don’t say it often: You want to know why there are so few women in the Top 100 most viewed lists on YouTube? Because women are far more likely to be stalked, threatened, and attacked on the Internet, and they are far more likely to see those attacks move from cyber-bullying to real life threats, which too often forces them to abandon their work and their audiences.

I’ve been making videoblogs for more than five years, and I have a large audience, and a few overeager fans have found out where I live over the years, and you know what they’ve done about it? They’ve left me candy. Now, to be clear, I was still very uncomfortable and freaked out by this. But they didn’t send me death threats with pictures of my apartment building the way they’ve done to Laci.

And Laci is not alone. Most of the women I’ve known from YouTube—from those with 5,000 subscribers to those with 500,000—have dealt with harassment and stalking, and it has affected their ability to create stuff.

It’s not acceptable. It’s not acceptable to respond to a transphobic comment with a threat to kill someone. It’s not acceptable to harass and stalk women because you want their attention. And it’s not acceptable to use threats and intimidation to silence women you disagree with.

YouTube and tumblr should respond aggressively to these reports, and we need stronger laws to combat this crap, because I’m tired of seeing brilliant women driven away from the Internet by trolls with nothing to contribute.

Do you know why I am pissed off? John Green wrote this and Maureen Johnson reblogged this, YA authors who I recently respected and whose books comprised some of the best moments I’ve had in my childhood and teenhood.

I’m pissed off that Laci Green pins Islam as one of the world’s most misogynistic religions and refuses to apologize for her comments.

I’m pissed off that people of color receive threats of death and rape and racist harassment in their inboxes every fucking day, but Tumblr staff doesn’t do anything about it. I’m pissed off that an internet pseudo-celebrity draws young adult authors to her aid when unknown PoC and readers of your books are dehumanized everyday for their culture, religion, or the color of their skin. When they are marginalized and discriminated against by Laci’s harmful and racist ideology.

Both John Green and Maureen Johnson are privileged white authors whose outreach is extensive and yet they serve only to derail the valid criticisms against Laci. Is it unacceptable to stalk and harass an individual, no matter how repellent their actions? Yes. Is it unacceptable to threaten her with rape and use misogynistic language against her? Absolutely. But does that detract from Laci’s hateful and discriminatory behavior and the people who are institutionally oppressed, but thankfully at liberty to speak against her? No

Feeling kind of sick because John Green thought it was an acceptable thing to do to say tr***y, and well… his whole post in general.

Goddamnit this is the problem with John Green and nerdfighters in general what the fuck you’re all living in bubbles. What the serious fuck.

all you fuckers acting like her receiving these threats absolves her of all the terrible shit up there that she’s done

ASK: What’s the story about Dan Savage? (I made this response post re-bloggable for those who requested it).

projectqueer:

(TRIGGER WARNING: discussion of cissexism, cissexist language/slurs, suicide (it gets better campaign), rape apologism, victim-blaming, body-shaming, slut-shaming)

Oh where to start with Dan Savage…

Anon, I live in Seattle. Dan Savage writes for a local publication here called the Stranger. Seattle seems to have a love-hate relationship with it. I personally, (as a journalism/news media snob) would never read it.

Savage is a gay married man. He is somewhat of a celebrity in the gay community. I say gay instead of queer because he does not always acknowledge all facets of our community.

He and his husband started the It Gets Better project, which has helped many queer youth swerve away from the suicidal path.

So he has done some really awesome things. Personally, as a journalist, I do not think that his articles are as awesome as people seem to think. He is harsh and rude for no reason. He crosses the line between forceful opinionated journalism, and mirrors the conservatives he so publicly loathes in his close minded opinions and unwillingness to hear multiple sides of a story that challenges his almighty opinion.

Oh and my favorite thing about Dan Savage is he tends to sway on the side of “they asked for it” when it comes to rape victims and slut shaming. Just the topper on the cake.

Again, these are all my personal opinions. For all of Savage’s links here are his column links

Love,

Scrappy (blogger/PQ guest writer)

————————————————————————————————

I agree with Scrappy on this topic, anon. While Dan Savage has done AMAZING things for the gay and lesbian community, he DOES exclude or outright INSULT many minorities within the queer community - namely bisexuals, pansexuals, and those in the trans* community.

Sources for these accusations are located here:

He HAS also been accused (a number of times) for being a rape apologist, slut-shamer, AND racist.

Sources for these accusations follow:

While I think that the It Gets Better Campaign is a well-meaning project, it DOES offer false hopes to some - especially if members of the community are excluded/ignored.

QueerWatch discusses this much further here: http://queerwatch.tumblr.com/post/1238368677/why-i-dont-like-dan-savages-it-gets-better

When these accusations are brought to his attention he either does not respond or reiterate the fact that most of his worst statements occurred a number of years ago. The problem is: IT IS A RE-OCCURRING ISSUE.

His most recent bout of news: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/11/02/dan-savage-glitterbombed-oregon-transphobia-_n_1071627.html

And, lastly… if anyone is interested, there is also a tumblr just for Dan Savage regarding all the aforementioned topics: http://fucknodansavage.tumblr.com/

I hope that answers your question, anon. Good day to you. <3

Sincerely,

Riley (PQ creator/editor)

P.S. If you would like to see videos of Dan Savage actually SAYING these things, simply type things like ‘Dan Savage biphobia’, ‘Dan Savage cissexism’, etc. into youtube’s search engine.

The resources are endless really…

As much as I love Zuko, this is hilarious.

LOLOLOLOL. I CAN’T.

“The fucking Avatar is wet for him and he’s a complete asshole to her”

I CAN’T.

are you fucking shitting me right now

Zuko grew past most of this shit, do you need to watch the third season again? and oh my god is that an implication that Mako is something OTHER than the most awkward motherfucker on the face of the planet? WOW YOU ARE DOING HIS CHARACTER WRONG. At this point Korra is hot for him only and ONLY because he is a good pro-bender. He is an asshole because he is FUCKING TERRIBLE AT PEOPLE.

And even if this is just in jest, which I am willing to accept? Fuck you for using a gay slur and fuck you for implying that being gay is a bad thing.

trigger warning: transbigotry, transmisogynist slur

[Anonymous asked: “What DON’T you find offensive? I mean really, all you ever talk about is trigger shit and pick anything apart until you find something that is offensive to you. Jill was a tranny, Jack was straight, what’s so fucking offensive about that?”]

  1. Gender orientation and sexual orientation are not comparable or in the same category, you ignorant shithead.
  2. “Tranny” is a slur, you cissexist fuck.

Any more of your vitriol will be deleted because I don’t feel like subjecting my followers to your bullshit, coward. :D Peace out!

Urban Outfitters outlets have been selling this horribly offensive card. Please reblog and contact them to complain. The general Urban Outfitters email address to complain: UrbanEuropeCS@urbanout.com Company president, Richard Hayne: richard.hayne@urbanout.com

Found something else to reblog because i don’t want that horrible image on my blog.

UO fuck off.

Seriously? Seriously, this exists?!

Is there any minority that they won’t go after? This is not how you treat women. I hope feminists are all over this. I’ll be over here holding my breath, dying.

If you didn’t hate Urban Outfitters already…

i will punch you in the face with fire ua god damn.

❝ Misandry” may be the most efficient word in the English language. In just one word it condenses the self-denying assholery of “I’m not a racist, but …” with the misogyny of “All women are bitches,” throwing in a free persecution-complex bonus

Cracked, of all things. Seriously. Cracked is now doing better on gender politics than Tumblr. Just sit with that for a moment.

(NB: The rest of the article contains some of the same problematic stuff that’s in most Cracked columns, and for the love of all that is good, DON’T READ THE COMMENTS!)
